Catching Fire - Cosplaying at the movies

So last year me and Dejathoris dressed up as Katniss and Effie. This year we decided that we would go as Capitol people. However, unbeknownst to me, Dejathoris just upped Effie to a while new level. Her claim is that Effie is still a Capitol Person and I agree.

I decided to go as a Capitol citizen who was supporting Katniss "The Girl On Fire". This involved all black outfit: Peplum top and shiny black skinny jeans, matched with my ridiculous red boots that I love. (After I move I'm just going to take a picture of all my shoes, since I obviously can't while wearing them). The makeup was a little more involved. I took and old Wet'nWild stencil from their 2012 Halloween collection. I didn't realize when I bought the stencils that they were one time use. They had a light adhesive that surprisingly didn't ruin my base makeup. Using the (repurchased)
Beletto I used three colours Starla (Yellow), Eternal Flame (Orange) and Ruby (Red). After carefully airbrushing the yellow, orange, and red (in that order) I took off the stencil. I then lined my eyes in black and put a bit of charcoal eye shadow on my crease for depth. I sprinkled on some gold glitter for sparkle. For my lips I used the same three beletto colours but painted them on with a lip brush.  Sealed everything with my "Up all Nighter" Urban Decay spray.

Efiie was actually Dejathoris' Allestra shirt and Medusa's waist cincher. The dress was another piece re-purposed from the costume closet. Paired with patterned tights and purple pumps. The wig was a wig we'd purchased for Ruby Rohd that never actualized. Using Claire's purple hair chalk depth was added. The fur collar was also hair chalked. The eyes were a blend of exotic-eyes and Katy Perry brand eyelashes. The shadow was a four year old MAC holiday collection. And liquid liner from Claire's was used both for purple lips and eye definition. Accessories were added in the purple crystal butterfly theme and the facinator were from a nice little accessory store in Northland Mall called "New Look Fashions". Awesome place, lots of bargain finds!

Random Notes:
- Guavious let me put gold eyeliner on him, and wore a black shirt and dark denin as per Cinna-spiration. However, none of it showed up well on film and you could barely tell. Which is OK because he begrudgingly wore gold eyeliner.
-  I wrote most of this on my phone, so if there are typos I'm sorry
- The movie was awesome and I can't wait to see what they do for the Mockingjay!

As always, all our photos are up on our Flickr

Halloween 2013 - Part 2 Disney Villains

Why start this off with the finished product? Wig cap "selfie" way more fun!
Dejathoris and I had a full set of Disney Villains lined up for a party on Oct 26th, but then everything fell apart. THEN, the party we were planning on going to was canceled and the replacement party was just out of additional villains budgets. So we went just the two of us to this amazing party thrown by the Calgary Opera and Green Fools Theater company: Grave Gala 2013... It was awesome!

We also were smart enough to hire Victoria Hall who has done our Fiona and Wonder Woman photos to do another round of cosplay photography.

The first time we met Victoria only one of us was in body paint....

This ended up being our first major exercise in full body paint for both of us. Dejathoris has had an Ursula costume for a few years now and hasn't had the opportunity to photograph it (if you don't know this by now, we suck at remembering to photograph our completed work). She then thought it would be funny if the person who has the home for rescue animals (aka "The Zoo") would be Cruella DeVille (me).

A few months ago I purchased a Belletto Studio airbrush system for the full intention of doing more airbrushing makeup and honing my techniques. In order to get used to it I started using it for every day makeup. FYI: NOTHING compares to airbrushing your makeup on. You look freaking fabulous.

Dejathoris had also purchased an industrial sized air compressor and we found an airbrush unit at Princess Auto for cheap that worked. The only problem was the units vial for paint was non-gravitational. Meaning that the vial was below the unit, not above like the Belletto. That's my technical term for it. Deal with it.

We watched a ton of YouTube videos on how to do Ursula makeup but my favorite was this timelaps version which helped us pick out the teals and blues for the eyeshadows.

And although we were going the more "glam" styled Cruella, this was by far my favorite Cruella tutorial. She's just fabulous.

Cruella was a black Fun Fur coat we'd been gifted by Momma Dejathoris and we added some white cuffs, trim, and collar, and added in the "glam" wig. The dress was something I had left over but did not realize how SHORT it was.. My bad. I'd made the earrings and ring from a sting of faux-turquoise flat rounds I'd found at Micheal's. I glued the earrings to pin posts because they didn't have studs available, only earring drops. The ring piece was inserted into a cheap setting found there as well.  I then decided to do a coating of Ben Nye MagiColor Grey ML-25. It goes on reeaaallly light but dries to a nice even grey, but fades pretty quick too. I tried doing contouring with powders afterwords but then ended up brushing off the body paint. So word to the wise, either do airbrushing or do regular makeups. Don't do both. And if you know how to do both, please email me! We sprayed my arms, legs, chest, back, everything! We used up the entire 1 oz vial that I was hoping to use later on in the week but no dice. I'd painted my nails red with the ring finger done in Dalmatian spots for added effect. Although in the pics you'll see that I'm wearing one red glove for effect too. I added red strappy shoes I had on hand (what shoes DON'T I have on hand?).

Ursula, as I mentioned already had the dress, so we're going to focus on her makeup. We bought countless vials of Ben Nye MagiColor Purple ML-15 for the base and Royal Violet ML-35 for contouring. We decided to go the more cartoon focused and were really happy with how the purple worked on Dejathoris in our test runs. Side note: Ben Nye... Why does your "airbrushing" makeup come with a brush and not a dropper??? And if this isn't airbrushing makeup, then we need to know.

So we started with the big Air Compressor in our tests but it just kept getting clogged and the Belletto is smaller so we thought instead of hauling both, we'd just use the Belletto. Well, we started with the Belletto and if we had just stayed there, we would have been there all night and never made it to the party. It went on SO LIGHT. I took one of my makeup brushes and just started PAINTING Dejathoris to save some time. That worked pretty well. We then used the airbrusher to smooth over her, which worked out perfectly. We ended up being so happy with the effect that we nixed the contouring.

We then stuck with blues and teals for the eyeshadow. All came from the e.l.f mega palette that can usually be found at Superstore for about $11 during Christmas or Hautelook (or from their website, which I've never used for some reason). The final touch here is definitely the wig. It's actually a Don King wig, styled and sprayed white at the front roots for extra depth. There's a bunch of other wigs you can use but this one is the one we're happiest with.
I saw this bus stop and thought this would make a hilarious shot, I was right...
If I could do it again though? I would apply this sealant between every coating, which Dejathoris wouldn't let me do. I think the more finishing spray would have made it hold on much longer. And to prove it I'm going to make her do a test run of it while we're working on next year's project. She used the gluestick method to do her eyebrows, and if you want more tips on that, there's a great video on it by Kandee Johnson here.

The party was a blast, we met four other Ursulas one other Cruella. The opera-style Ursula (seen below) won the costume contest last I heard. I wasn't sure as we were getting are cards read. Point of note? Don't tell the tarrot reader that they are incorrect. They don't like that.

Random notes:
- Did you know there's a packaged "sexy Ursula"? WTF

- Don't drink and airbrush, you may break your toys... I'm afraid to email Belletto even though I'm still under warranty

- Don't have a cooler? Ice in the sink works well, especially if you're spending 90% of your time in the bathroom working on makeup. It also contains the mess a little

- Overall we used three 1oz bottles of Purple on Ursula, which is less than what we've read on other sites for recommended body coverage, so as long as you are careful and ration, you should have enough

- Unrelated: don't leave open bottles lying around, you'll dump one eventually

- If you're in Calgary, Don't Hobby Shop has a LOYALTY program that I found out after repeatedly cleaning out their Ben Nye stock for WEEKS

- I'm a little mortified that I used the term Selfie, even in a caption

As always, all our photos can be found on our Flickr. There will be more Cruella and Ursula ones shortly!

Rant - Costume Room

This is my blog and I have decided to be off topic..

Well technically its not that off topic but just go with it.

My house is for sale, and therefore my costume room is packed and staged in a way that no costumers room would EVER look. I'm extremely frustrated because I have 3 projects sitting in the original post office post office boxes that I want to unpack and play with! And I would like to be able to focus on those projects except for the fact that for the last 3 month people keep coming into my home and treating it like their personal train station. I'm in limbo right now because I can either have my house sell and I will have the next 30 days trying to find a new place and then unpack my stuff in about 2 months. or my house doesn't sell and I get to unpack my stuff now only to repack it in 2 months with my house for sale again! Which means all cosplaying and staging needs to be done at the Dejathoris house.  Extremely f****** frustrated!!!!

It's laughable that people think this is what a "sewing room" looks like....

Halloween 2013 - Part I: Scooby-Doo, Where are you?

Halloween! The favoritest of holidays for cosplayers. You get to view all the "normals" out there participating in your most favorite of activities. As you may have noticed from previous posts we suck at taking pictures of ourselves in costumes but this year we went to two different events are were smart enough to actually get a photographer (our most favorite Victoria Hall) for one, and ran into one at the other!

Miss Hall is still sending us some photos on the first, so I'm writing about the second, first. If that makes any sense.

All this started because I bought a pair of purple boots on a whim because:
1) They were Purple Pirate Boots (all that and I don't have a pic of the BOOTS?!?! We really suck)
2) They were on sale at ShoeDazzle (of note: if you're Canadian, only buy on sale!)

When Dejathoris found out about the boots I was proclaimed Daphne, ending the Geek Girl battle of Who-Gets-To-Be-Velma, which has lasted the better half of a decade. Also, I was totally up for it, since I saw these amazing shots of Scoobie Zombie Hunters over on io9. I wasn't able to transform my Daphne into a hunter for this year's Zombie walk (Dejathoris had a wedding to go to, lame), but hopefully next year!

The nice thing about the Scoobies is that they are pretty simple. I already dye my hair red on a regular basis, Blond Surfer wig for Fred, short brown wig for Velma. We left Shaggy's hair as is (that's Mr Dejathoris', he just lets us drag him into cosplay on occasion).

Daphne
We found a purple dress at Value Village (VV) and added the light purple arm bands. We didn't add the stripes at the bottom since the dress had this bubble-hem and would just look strange. Pair that with light purple tights and the aforementioned boots, made a headband & scarf and voila!

Fred
Purchased a light blue shirt and small white sweater at VV, paired with jeans, made the orange ascot, and wig. Done. Guavious was on days off so we told him it was fine he didn't shave off the beard. He so rarely gets days where he doesn't have to shave so we let him have it.

Shaggy
A big and tall store had a size 6XLT T-Shirt which he wore swimmingly, paired with his Shreck pants from last year. Done.

Velma
DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO FIND ORANGE SOCKS?!?!?! We tried to modify tights (fail), Soccer socks (fail), dyed socks with the cheaper dye (fail), then finally went with what we should have done in the first place and used the good dye (RIT) and dyed a pair of white socks. Paired with an orange turtleneck and red skirt, some cute red mary janes from VV and some hipster glasses.

While we were out and about we ran into a photographer that has apparently been making the rounds at all the cons, doing only black and white photos of profiles. Well he got some amazing shots and I have to share. All the rest of his work is up on his Flickr.

Funny side note, a woman commented on Penny Lane (the amazing jacket I also found at VV) saying "If there's any night to wear a ridiculous jacket, it's Halloween!" not knowing I have essentially worn that coat EVERYDAY since I bought it.

Oh, and why wasn't Scooby there? We were on the Case of the missing Scoob.

Random Notes
- Those "normals" we talk about? Here's a pair that were visiting us for the Flames vs Leafs game we dragged into it
- At said Flames/Leafs game Guavious and I dressed up and added our jerseye all prep style to our backs. People didn't know we were in costume.. WTF?
- My "editor" (Guavious) and I are discussing the proper spelling of Scooby vs Scoobies, it's funny
- Holy shit! A post within a week of the event??? Consider this the exception, not the rule (not that I don't try)

As always, our entire photo collection is up on our Flickr.

Norwescon 35 - Clash of the Titans Masquerade

Before I get ahead of myself, WE WON PRIZES Y'ALL! Oh wait, I should have waited until the end to say that but I just couldn't help myself! Oh.... and this post, among others is SUPER LATE....

Who: Persesus, Princess Andromeda, and Medusa
When: Pre AND post beheading
Who's: Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans (2010)

We have been working on our Clash of the Titans costumes for MONTHS and it was so lovely to have everything work out so well! Not that we didn't screw up some things and have other things break right before Workmanship Judging, but it was so great to have everything work out after so much hard work! And another thing, to be fair, we were up against some pretty stiff competition!

I've written about Guavious/Perseus's shield here, but I'm going to try an summarize all the high points in this post. We decided shortly after Norwescon 34 (Dune) to do Clash of the Titans for Norwescon 35. We knew that Wrath of the Titans was going to be coming out sometime around April so we thought it would be relevant. We weren't expecting the total backlash of the movie bombing, but it was going up against some really tough competition! We decided on Guavious being Perseus (natch), myself being Princess Andromeda, and Dejathoris to play Medusa. Surprisingly many of our ideas of grandeur that came out of our initial brainstorming phase ACTUALLY TURNED OUT!

Perseus: Perseus is made up of Wunderflex, leather and many, many, MANY rivets. We used some hockey equipment to mold the leather for the shin guards, and old pop cans to mold the wrist guards.

Another major piece to this project was dying all the leather... If you've noticed, for some reason I really like taking pictures of paint drying... I still have no idea why I do this....

Either way, in order for the outfit to read as worn rather than use a flat black we used a Smoke Stain and did between two to three coats on everything. While this was all drying, we worked on the Wunderflex!

Dejathoris cut out hundreds of those little tabs and and then painstakingly adhered them together with the heat gun. They were then molded on top of the leather and then riveted on. The same process was then completed for the wrist and knee guards.

The chest piece was one large piece of Wunderflex, with the "muscle definition" pieces being a second layer of Wunderflex being adhered on top of this. All the Wunderflex was spray-painted battered silver, with gun metal coloured paint hand brushed on for definition. The tunic was a nice dark green linen sewn in a matter so that none of the machine sewn edges were showing so that it looked truly authentic to the time.
We also took the liberties of making it a bit longer than the movie version as we didn't want Guavious flashing his goods around in his lovely skirt! Speaking of the skirt, we cut all the tabs differently to, again, add to the detail and 'worn' look we were going for. The only part of the whole outfit that was machine sewn was the skirt tabs to the skirt belt.

The belt was a large enough piece to wrap around Guavious waist, and for extra detail, Dejathoris hand stamped a replica of the symbol from the Clash of the Titans sword we purchased. She also hand stamped a matching scabbard and riveted that together as well.

Princess Andromeda: Logically, and by that, I mean by my logic, this damn costume should have taken a couple of days... However, it did not. We kept finding "better fabric". At the end of the day, we went back to our very first fabric... We tried planning, we really did!

So the main part of this costume, the sheath dress is a piece of fabric we picked up at Bhatia Fabrics in their discount bin.  We then attached the straps using gold cord from the dollar store of all places! And created a little bit of pin tucking to add a more delicate detail on the bottom. Next, we attached this heavy gold and cord belt (left) around the waist.  The final dress detail on the dress was attaching these golden medallions: One where each strap met the dress, two on each sleeve, and one on every pin tucked seam.
The ORIGINAL second piece of fabric was the perfect blush colour to show off our original inspiration Clash of the Titans (1981). Princess Andromeda has a lot more stills from this film and is generally seen in this gorgeous peach/pink dress. We tried bringing the fabric into the 2010 version by spray painting medallions onto the fabric but that turned out AWFUL. So in our last minute rush, I grabbed my wedding sari, and we used that instead. Selfishly? I loved being able to show off my wedding sari again. However, Guavious pointed out how clumsy I am and was extra-special worried I was going to wreck it... Which by my record? It's a miracle I didn't!!
The jewelry was modified from a set purchased at Bhatia. The necklace was turned into a tiara, and the earrings stayed earrings. The necklace I wore was another medallion added to a leather cord.

The makeup, although I have yet to find a good closeup, was where I spent most of my time. I used Nyx and LIT cosmetics and CAKED myself in gold body glitter. I then drew leaves and swirls all around my eyes in different golds, using mostly LIT cosmetics  They had the best selection of golds but also had a great primer which really held on.

Medusa:
Medusa was created in several parts - the base being a ton of body paint over which a black skirt with an 8 foot tail attached, a leather underbust corset, and a scaled bra piece made with wonderflex was worn. Two snake headdresses were then constructed using wonderflex and dollar store rubber snakes, one having moving snakes which would be worn, and the other was secured to a full scale model of Dejathoris' severed head.

For the "Alive" Medusa we created a scaled bra piece using leather tools to create the snakeskin texture on our Wunderflex, which was then spray painted a flat black. A skirt was created using wide leather strips on the front down to the knees, with an 8 foot, stuffable train attached to the back, with a leather "rattle" on the end, which gave the impression of a giant snake.  The leather corset was worn on top to mimic the look, along with the tiered leather front of the skirt, of the famous Minoan Snake Goddess.  Earlier in the week, we had purchased a bunch of pillows and spent the better half of the afternoon stuffing and hand sewing the tail, which was then pinned up in a curl to allow for mobility.

HOWEVER, once the outfit was complete there was the process of turning Dejathoris' skin into Medusa's scales. We sprayed her from head to toe in a silver hair spray. After drying we then used the most ridiculous technique of rolling on scales that I hope makes sense: Black Elmers non-toxic paint, a lint roller, and a large stamp pad with a snake skin pattern (intended for scrapbooking). The black paint actually looks more navy but I digress. We wrapped the stamp pad over the lint roller and coated it in paint. I then GENTLY rolled the scales onto Dejathoris' legs, arms, neck, and face.  As this dried we sealed it twice with our cosmetics sealant.  White, snake eye contacts were used to complete the look.

Finally, in order for the prop to be effective "Beheaded" Medusa and "Alive" Medusa's heads needed to match as closely possible. So for this, Dejathoris spent part of her December holiday getting her brother to do a life cast of her head. Check out our Flikr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/thecostumeguild/sets/72157628642107293/
for a detailed photo log of this involved process.  Using expandable insulation foam from Home Depot over top of a skull prop from a Halloween shop, a base for the severed head was then sculpted so that the moulded face piece could be attached.  She then worked on the headdresses at the same time.  A crown of wonderflex, again given a scaled texture using leather working tools, was then woven with rubber snakes for each one prior to painting.  For the "Alive"  headdress,  remote control motors were included in order to enable the snakes to move a bit.   However - lesson learned! - the batteries had gone dead by the time we got to Seattle, so unfortunatly we were unable to show off this special effect as they had been sealed off with wonderflex and paint.   A new rule was then established: always ensure batteries are accessible when including electronics in your costumes so that they can be replaced as needed.

Overall this was a pretty big undertaking. We made a full suit of armour, two heads that had to match, and someone was wandering around in part of her wedding dress! No pressure! Our presentation was a mini-version of the movie. I came out as  Andromeda, asked Perseus to help me, he then goes off to get Medusa's head and just before I'm sacrificed to the Kraken (I got to scream wicked loud here, it was my shining moment), Perseus runs up and saves me with Medusa's head. As Novices, we were up against some UH-MAZING competitors. We won Workmanship and Best in Class both in the Novice Category. And the judges gave us some really positive feedback. Although we had a really thought our skit, the fight scene of Perseus and Medusa ended up being too focused in one corner and we should have used the whole stage. Something that we definitely put in place in future Masquerades.

Cutest Cosplay Couple at Calgary Expo

So I mentioned in my other post off hand about this Link and Zelda couple that me and Dejathoris saw during Calgary Expo... I ran up to them to take their picture because they were freaking ADORABLE. Holding hands and all that stuff...

I did not realize how freaking AWESOME they secretly were! Saw this over on the Observation Deck on io9...

Iron Cosplaying at Calgary Expo 2013

After a pretty rough start, I'd have to say that I had an amazing time at Calgary Expo 2013! Got to show off some pretty amazing costumes, got to see some pretty spectacular costumes, and got to see the likes of the Lannisters; Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey, and the great and wonderful Nathan Fillion!
My Weekend looks at Calgary Expo: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Friday was a little confusing... For the first time since the 2013 guest announcements I forgot to check the Twitter feed and got completely turned around... Needless to say, I missed the Princess Bride: The Hero, the Villain Panel. The room was full! Apparently I wasn't the only one. I ended up watching it on the Calgary Expo FlipOn channel and learned something heartbreaking... My dearest Westley chews with his mouth open!!! Seriously, other than that, that panel broadcast gave me all the feels. I really wish I could have been there...
Chris Sarandon and Cary Elwes
Friday we also took the opportunity to head on down to the Unicorn, where if you showed up in costume, you would get 25% off you bill... With all the other events going on that night, we were the ONLY ONES in costume... You would *think* that would be awkward, but a lovely couple bought me and Dejathoris a drink so it all was worth it!
Dejathoris' Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Saturday morning we headed out early. Or at least in my mind what's early for a Saturday. There was an Special Effects panel in the Roatary House that we both wanted to go to.... In all the years I've been going to the Stampede grounds, I have NEVER.NOTICED the Rotary House... That's not weird right? Either way, I was a little disappointed in the panel itself. I think the presenter was more focused on SPFX jobs rather than teaching techniques. Or I misunderstood what the panel was about. The panel was 3/4 of the way through before they even started doing makeup on people, and they weren't really explaining what they were doing. However, got some great recommendations on some books to pick up.

The day then transitioned into watching the folks battling out where the Coke Stage is in full armor and having lunch. This was one of my favorite add ons. Outdoor entertainment! People/Cosplay watching! Food Trucks! Just delightful! Whilst said people watching, I took a snapshot of what I think was the BEST Link & Zelda all weekend (and there were a LOT people!)

We then headed back to the Roatary House to watch the Iron Costumer competition. We've heard about these before but have been unable to attend. HOWEVER, one team didn't show up, so Dejathoris and I teamed up with this delightful couple in line behind us and put together a team!

That's a chopstick horn helmet, by the way

The Theme: Time Travel
The "Special Ingredient: Chopsticks
Our Team Name: Tag You're it!
Our Costume: Flava Flav from 1992

Iron Costumer winners 2013

What do you think? We were up against a time travelling alien and a black hole with the Planet Express. Both were also awesome and some how WE WON!
Our Iron Costumer Prize!

Saturday finished up at the Con by watching the Stargate Panel, in which I've learned that Michael Shanks' ALSO CHEWS WITH HIS MOUTH OPEN and that Richard Dean Anderson really doesn't give a shit. That second part, totally, totally awesome.

Screenshot from the Stargate Panel

Eliza Dushku really knows how to handle a con crowd. She was delightful while still promoting her projects and her social media outlets.  I really loved her panel. Plus, she said "Five by Five" SQUEEEEEEEEEE

Other than the adorable Link and Zelda I posted, my other major fave costume from Saturday would have to be this one:
The Dread Pirate Roberts!

I was so excited when I saw this guy that I think I ran across the aisles and smacked him on the shoulder...

There were also some amazing Game of Thrones cosplays... A spectacular Robb Stark/Dany/Melissandre group and a great Dany/Drogo pair. Loved them!!!

Sunday was all about the panels. Other than the fact that I was REALLY excited to show off MY Melissandre on the con floor. We saw the X-Files Panel, where Gillian Anderson raised $800 for a signed script and a kiss. This was just a delightful panel. The whole group of Robert Patick, Mitch Pileggi and Gillian Anderson were so wonderful and chatty.

This lead into the Game of Thrones panel with Lena Heady and Peter Dinklage. There were awesome! And they were not expecting the crowd of people... There was no seating left by the time they started. It was so intense that they requested beer. The highlight would have to be when a fan asked what was going to happen to Joffrey this season and the crowd split into hissing "SPOILERS!" and laughter. Lena handled this beautifully by just saying "That's my son!"

Finally we watched Nathan Fillion's panel. Who was delightful. Between talking about Edmonton and LA, Castle and the Whedonverse, he was just a phenomenal speaker... He also had a twitter challenge that two people in the audience flat.out.ROCKED.

This sign deserves a stand alone PRO!!!
So overall pros: Almost all the panels I wanted to see were in the Coral (This is a major pro). And because of Princess Bride fiasco, I decided not to go to the other smaller rooms so I didn't have to miss the ones I really wanted to see live. (The rest of this week is going to be dedicated to watching everything on the FlipOn feed!). The use a space was delightful  Having a space outside where people could wander was really needed. I had no desire to fight the shopping crowds in the early Saturday since that was the craziest time of the whole day. It was a little cold and windy, but the space was worth it. The Photo Ops were in a different building and because I wasn't getting any autographs I was able to stay away from those areas. (I now find out that one of the booths I was looking for was in fact, in the autograph section!)

Overall Cons: None of the bank machines worked and sadly most of the food stands in the Corral and area were Cash only. Also, there was no where to just buy/get water. You'd have to wait in a line up 20 minutes long with hungry hungry people when all you wanted was a drink!

However, there were so many many many improvements over the year before that I can't imagine the Calgary Expo not getting better and better each year! Here's to next year!

As always, more photos as I find them over at the Flickr
